Jayme,
On three separate occasions I sat down at my computer to write this blog entry for you, my best friend of 24 years (give or take a few) and I started writing stories of our childhood history: First grade, prom, horse-riding, basketball ... including that tape I haven't forgiven you for playing during basketball warm-ups. These stories are memories, pieces of our history and while I felt great interest replaying them in my mind, they also felt like stories just for us, things we can giggle about in person.
What I really want to say is how I think of you today. You probably can name a few, if not many, friends who changed in the years following high school. This might be a natural result of growing up. I can honestly say that you are one person who has never strayed one yard from the person you naturally are in all the years I have known you. Yes, some things in your life have changed. You married. You bought a house. You have two children. And changed careers. But your personality hasn't budged. I find this comforting. To always meet the same friend, whether by phone, in email or in person who is consistent and real.
So today, I pay tribute to you. I am glad we stood by our friendship for so long without letting time or distance invade our space. I smile when I hear you call me "Sis", your nickname for me since childhood. I like seeing that you follow your passion and are still that inquisitive girl who will figure out any solution to complex problems. I find it awesome that you took your first family vacation ... with the kids ... to Florida last year, and had a blast. Lastly, that you find fun in almost every moment.
Huge hug and Happy Birthday!
xoxo, Sis
